McKinley Springs Milky Way

What’s the story behind this photo?

I was with a group of friends participating in the McKinley Springs Winery BBQ Competition. I think it mostly turns into a drinking competition, but that’s another story.

It’s in the middle of nowhere, so I brought my camera gear with the intention of doing some astrophotography.

We’d been prepping the meat all night and getting the bigger cuts on the grill when I looked behind us and saw the glow of sunrise. It was 4AM.

I dropped the meat, washed my hands, and rushed to grab my gear and get setup in time to fire off just a few shots before it got too light.

The image is actually available on Getty, through their “Moment Open” collection.

What equipment did you use?

An Olympus OM-D E-M5 with Olympus 17mm f1.8 lens, Aputure remote shutter, and Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT tripod.
